Since Evie joined us last February, it became clear that our little ranch house was simply too little to contain us and all our stuff. We thought about an addition, but we are not financially in the position to take on those kind of bills. Athena was nicely willing to move into a teenager pad in the basement, but that would only solve part of the problem. Jaime checked out the real estate market, and found that expensive Amherst might be to our benefit, in that we might be able to sell our little ranch for a bigger place outside of Amherst. Sure enough, we found that we could get something much larger in some of the surrounding towns.
We looked at several houses, and found one we really like in Shutesbury, which is just to the east and northeast of Amherst. It has LOTS of room, four bedrooms, fireplaces, and an apartment in the basement, which opens to the back yard, all on two acres in the woods, and in the same school district.
With help from my parents, we put in an offer yesterday, and are waiting to hear, anxiously. It would be very exciting! We are keeping our fingers crossed, and are hopeful.
